Avantis targets growth in Asia market with appointment of commercial shipping, oil & gas and energy sector veteran

Avantis, the leading provider of environmental and energy-optimizing solutions for the marine, offshore and power generation markets, has geared up for growth in Asia with the appointment of Roy Yap as General Manager. An experienced maritime professional with a track record in leadership positions, Yap will be based in Singapore from where he will head up Cardiff-based Avantis’ operations in the Asia region.

Speaking about the appointment, Avantis Chief Executive Officer, Thomas David, commented:

“We are delighted to bring Roy – and his 25 years of experience in the Asian maritime sector – on board. Roy will head up our expansion in the region, focusing on commercial shipping, oil & gas and renewables projects. He will build on what is an already successful business, adding value to our team through the breadth of knowledge and contacts he has across our target sectors.”

A Naval Architecture graduate, Yap, took his first steps into the maritime sector at Sembawang Shipyard in engineering repair and upgrades for ships and FPSOs. During the offshore boom of the 2000s, Yap managed OSV shipbuilding projects in Indonesia before accepting a senior management position at Wartsila for OSV design and retrofits. Yap, then worked for Chinese shipbuilders leading design and marketing and more recently with maritime digitalization and Industry 4.0 startups.
